The cost of extra ‘baggage’

Passengers flying to Amsterdam or Paris after March should check their tickets – if you’re flying Air France-KLM and you’re considered too ‘large’ you may need to buy a second seat.

“People who arrive at the check-in desk and are deemed too large to fit into a single seat will be asked to pay for and use a second seat,” Spokeswoman Monique Matze told The Daily Mail.

Passengers required to buy a second seat will receive a 75% discount on the cost, and will be refunded the 75% if the flight is not full. The charges will be introduced on tickets booked after February 1st for all flights departing after March.

Airlines are still entitled to disallow overweight passengers from flying if they might reduce the evacuation time of the aircraft in an emergency situation.
